Paint supplier Vinny Byrne has invested in three new third generation spectrophotometers which are now in use at its specialist refinish colour facilities in north and south Dublin and throughout its sales network.

The state of the art equipment called the Spectrofighter has been developed by Italian paint supplier Palinal to provide fast and accurate colour matches across a range of finish types. Vinny Byrne’s Refinish Technical Sales Specialist Alan Kelly says, “This is the very latest technology in digital colour identification. It allows our colour team to perfectly match any colour type, metallic, solid, pearl, pastel or any new generation finish on a car, motorbike, truck, bus, caravan, tractor, crane, boat or any type of vehicle or painted surface.” Alan adds, “The process takes just a few minutes as the equipment references a database of over 80,000 colours. It will even give you information on colour adjustment.”

The Palinal colour database features a full colour library with vehicle colours dating back to 1950. It is also kept fully up to date with the latest vehicle manufacturer colours added on an on-going basis. As well as all vehicle colours, the database also features colour standards such as RAL, BS, NCSS and Pantone.

The Spectrofighter is fully portable and is highly effective in making accurate colour readings on curvilinear surfaces. Alan says the spectro is nick named Sherlock Homes as it can solve just about any colour problem. It speeds up Vinny Byrne’s ability to mix and match colours and will offer an added colour resource for Vinny Byrne customers.
